Machinery and Equipment for the Wood Industry
OCTOBER 18 - 21, 2011
WOOD-TEC 2011
18th – 21st October 2011
12th International Fair of Machinery, Equipment and Materials for the Wood Industry
This year’s WOOD-TEC Fair took place at a difficult time of economic crisis whose development is hard to predict. WOOD-TEC has had a progressive development throughout its existence, therefore, a decline was expected. However, despite an unfavorable situation which exists in the woodworking industry, the majority of traditional exhibitors came to the fair; market leaders were present as well and even new exhibitors visited WOOD-TEC. Preliminary results imply that visitors enjoyed the fair as well.
We appreciate favor of our exhibitors and visitors and we are happy that they see the fair as an opportunity to get their businesses moving, present their products, novelties and establish new contacts.
We look forward to meeting you at the next year of WOOD-TEC Fair which will hopefully take place in time of worldwide economic conjuncture and will once again strengthen its position in the field of woodworking industry.
Growing foreign participation
The number of participating countries increased to 16, for the first time firms from Great Britain, the Philippines and Taiwan attended the fair. 24 % of foreign exhibitors, 6 % of foreign professionals from 33 countries were recorded. They came in particular from Slovakia, Germany, Italy, Poland, Austria and also from Slovenia. For the first time visitors from Denmark, Chile, Jordan, Libya, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Taiwan and Turkey took part in the fair.
Czech Market
Large forested areas cover 35% of the territory in the Czech Republic alone, of which 90% are conifers. The wooden biomass reserves are estimated at 670 mil. m3. The relatively fast growth of wooden mass adds approx 20 mil. m3 of wood a year. The annual output of wooden biomass amounts to about 17.5 million m3, which makes the Czech Republic one of the European countries with great potential for supplying woodworking products and wooden materials to domestic and foreign markets.
The Czech timber industry has a well developed primary timber production in sawmills. In order to enhance competitiveness, the Czech timber industry is forced to invest to keep up with competition and to add more value in the production process. The woodworking industry and furniture production is based on SME´s, while several large wooden mills exist. The sector registers 1026 entities in the category of small companies (with 10-49 employees) and more than 145 of medium-sized companies (with 50-249 employees). Timber industry and wood-processing are also significant sectors in neighbouring Slovakia, Austria, and Poland.
